Coloured Concrete in Darwin

Coloured concrete in Darwin adds personality and style to any project without sacrificing strength. We supply and install coloured concrete in Darwin for driveways, patios, pool decks, paths and commercial areas, with a wide palette of shades from natural greys and earthy tones to bold, modern colours.

Colour can be mixed through the concrete or applied to the surface, depending on the finish you want. Our team ensures even coverage, clean edges and a professional result, then seals the concrete to resist fading in the strong Darwin sun. Coloured concrete can be combined with stamping, exposed aggregate or polishing for a custom look. Contact us today for a free quote on coloured concrete in Darwin.

How we can help

Our Coloured Concrete Work Around Darwin

Colour-Through Driveways

We blend the pigment right through the mix, so your driveway is coloured all the way down, not just on the surface. Sandstone, terracotta and slate grey are local favourites, and we add a light broom texture so it does not get slippery on a dewy morning.

Patios and Outdoor Living Areas

Your patio, alfresco slab or the space under your elevated home can be coloured to suit your decking, gardens and outdoor furniture. We set the falls so water runs away from the house and allow for posts or a roof you might add later.

Coloured Paths and Mowing Strips

We tie together your front gate, clothesline and shed with coloured paths, side paths and mowing strips. A soft tint takes the edge off plain grey, and a formed edge along your garden beds helps keep mulch and soil in place when a big storm comes through.

Two-Tone Borders and Banding

Want to frame your driveway or highlight the entry? We pour borders, header courses and panels in a second colour. Saw-cut or formed lines keep each colour sharp, and we can pick up details from your home such as the trim, fence or roof.

Commercial and Hospitality Frontages

We lay coloured concrete for cafe forecourts, motel entries, resort paths and club grounds. Colours can follow your building or your designer's spec, and we pick a texture with enough grip for busy foot traffic, wet-season showers and the odd spilt drink.

Adding to an Existing Coloured Slab

Widening your driveway or adding a parking pad next to older coloured concrete? We look at how much the original has weathered, choose a mix that blends as closely as we can, and place the join along a natural line such as a garden edge or step.

Getting Your Coloured Concrete Started in Darwin: Three Simple Steps

Picking a colour should be enjoyable, and we want you to feel confident before any pigment goes in. These three steps help you find shades that suit your home and our bright Top End light.

  • Send us a photo of your place: Get the roof, walls and gardens in the shot, and we can suggest colours that sit well with them.
  • Check samples on site: We can bring colour samples to your home so you can compare them against your walls and paving in natural daylight.
  • Show us what inspires you: Seen a coloured driveway or patio you love, online or around town? Send it over and we will talk about how to get a similar result.

Dark colours hold more heat underfoot, and light colours show leaf and mould marks in the wet, so we talk you through how each option will work at your place day to day. When you have a few favourites, call us or send a message to book your free quote.

Why work with us

Why Darwin Homeowners Choose Us for Coloured Concrete

Consistent Colour In Every Load

Once concrete sets, a colour difference between trucks is there for good. We confirm the pigment dose for every batch with the plant, stick with one supplier for your whole job and plan joints so any slight change falls on a clean line.

Careful Curing In The Heat

Uneven curing is a big cause of blotchy colour, and hot, windy Darwin days make it worse. We manage moisture evenly across your slab in the first few days and avoid shortcuts, like plastic laid straight on top, that can leave pale patches.

Tips For Shady, Humid Corners

Coloured concrete under trees or on the shady side of your home can grow mould and algae through the wet. We suggest sealers and textures that make those spots easier to clean, plus gentle cleaning methods that will not strip your colour.

A Sealing Plan That Makes Sense

Sealer protects the colour, but sun and traffic wear it down. When we hand over, we tell you which product we used, how to tell when it is wearing thin and roughly how often to recoat, so your slab stays looking good.

Honest About Natural Variation

Every slab is mixed and finished on site, so small changes in shade are normal, especially with oxide colours. We show you photos of real finished jobs first, so you know how much variation to expect on your own pour.

Proper Groundwork Underneath

A cracked or sunken slab looks poor in any colour. We dig, compact, reinforce and joint each job to suit your ground, whether it is clay, sandy coastal soil or ironstone gravel, before we even think about pigment.

Common questions

Your Coloured Concrete Questions

What Darwin homeowners usually ask us about coloured concrete: fading in the tropical sun, oxide or hardener, staining an existing slab, choosing colours and what it adds to the cost.

A little, yes. Top End UV is strong, but the colour method and how you look after it make a big difference. Oxide mixed through the concrete holds up best, because the colour goes all the way through and light surface wear just reveals more of the same shade. Colour applied to the surface is more exposed, as it is only a thin layer. Either way, the sealer does most of the protecting, and keeping it topped up every few years matters more than which pigment brand you choose. If your older coloured slab looks tired, a good clean and a fresh sealer coat usually brings a lot of the colour back.

Oxide is added to the concrete at the batching plant, so the colour is even through the whole slab. You get soft, slightly mottled tones, and chips or scuffs barely show because the same colour sits underneath. Colour hardener is a dry powder we spread on the fresh surface and trowel in while finishing. It gives you a stronger, richer colour and a harder, denser top, but the colour is only a few millimetres deep. If bold colour on your driveway is the main goal, hardener is a good fit. If your slab is likely to take knocks and chips, oxide is usually the safer bet.

Yes. We can use penetrating stains or dyes that soak into a cured slab rather than adding colour at the plant. The result is more see-through and varied than pigmented concrete, so a bit of your slab's original character still shows, which many people like. The key is preparation. Your concrete has to be sound and free of old sealer, paint, curing compound and grime for the stain to soak in, and that cleaning is most of the work. Each slab takes colour a little differently, so we test the stain in a hidden spot first and let you see the real result before we do the whole area.

Warm, earthy colours such as sand, tan, soft brown and muted terracotta look good against weatherboard, fibro, render and brick, so they suit raised tropical homes, older pre- and post-Tracy houses and brick lowsets. Charcoal and mid greys go well with newer builds and dark cladding, like many homes in Zuccoli or Muirhead. Think about practical points too. Dark colours get hot in full sun, which matters around a pool or outdoor area, while very pale colours show mould, leaf stains and tyre marks faster on a damp, shady driveway. A mid tone is often the easiest to live with, and we can bring samples so you can see them in your own light.

Colour does add to the price, but it is still one of the more affordable ways to lift a plain slab. Oxide in the mix adds a modest amount, and the deeper the shade, the more pigment it takes. Colour hardener costs more because you pay for the product and the extra labour to work it in during finishing. Everything underneath stays the same. The dig, crushed rock base, steel mesh and concrete are just like a plain slab, so colour is an extra rather than a different job. Things like access, site levels and preparation usually affect your total more, so we price your job after we have seen the site.
