Who we are

Concreters Darwin NT

Pouring concrete in Darwin is a different job from pouring it somewhere mild, and that is exactly why we stick to the Top End as a local Darwin concrete company. On a hot morning the mix starts going off fast. In the wet, a single storm can dump enough water to flood a poorly planned block. Dig down and you might hit lateritic gravel and ironstone, clay pockets that hang on to moisture, or soft, salty ground close to the creeks and mangroves. Ignore any of that and you will usually see cracks within a few wet seasons.

So before we talk finishes, we look at your site. We choose a pour day once we have checked the forecast, the time of year and how long your slab needs to cure. We work out whether the truck can reach the formwork, whether we need a concrete pump, or whether we barrow it in a section at a time. Then we set the dig depth and the reinforcement based on the ground we actually find. It is not glamorous work, but it is the reason your driveway will still be flat and sound in fifteen years.

For homeowners and builders we pour driveways, house and shed slabs, footings, patios, paths and retaining walls. For businesses we lay car parks, hardstand and forecourts. If your existing concrete just needs a fix or a fresh surface, we will say so, since it costs you less and is often the smarter choice. Give us a call or send a message, and we will come out, look over the site and send you a written quote.

Dreaming of a pool to escape the build-up heat? A concrete pool in Darwin needs a builder who understands the tropics, the approvals involved and the finish you are hoping for. We build custom concrete pools for family homes and high-end residences, and we also take on multi-lot developments and commercial projects around the Top End. From design and engineering through excavation, steel and finishing, we look after each stage so your pool is structurally sound and ready for humidity, monsoon rain and years of swimming. Whether you want a private backyard retreat or pools across a whole estate, talk to us on 08 7943 6030 for a free quote.

Before and after of a Darwin ocean-view pool: an excavator digging the shell, then the finished infinity pool with exposed aggregate surrounds
Ocean-view home: from the first dig to an infinity pool with aggregate surrounds
Before and after of a Darwin backyard pool: formwork and reinforcement in the hole, then the finished pool with a honed concrete surround
Family backyard: from steel and formwork to a honed concrete surround
Before and after of a Darwin luxury home pool: mesh tied into the shell, then a lap pool with an exposed aggregate deck
Luxury build: from a reinforced shell to a lap pool with an aggregate deck
Before and after of a Darwin tropical home pool: the dug and boxed site, then the finished pool with raised stone-look coping
Tropical home: from a boxed-out hole to a finished pool with raised coping

Your pool surround deserves just as much care as the shell. We finish decks and surrounds in exposed aggregate, honed or textured concrete, so they keep their grip when wet, stay cooler under the Darwin sun and hold up against chlorine, salt air and monsoon rain. We set the falls to send water away from both the pool and your house, keeping the whole area safer and easier to maintain.

Polished floors

Polished Concrete Floors for Darwin Homes, Kitchens and Workplaces

Got a stained or tired-looking slab? There is usually a great floor hiding underneath. We grind back marked, blotchy or worn concrete to expose the aggregate, then harden and polish it in stages until it has the level of shine you want. It suits a lounge room, a kitchen and dining area, or a busy warehouse floor with forklifts running all day.

Before and after of a Darwin garage: a patchy, stained slab polished to a glossy aggregate floor
Garage floor: from stained and patchy to glossy, exposed aggregate
Before and after of a Darwin kitchen and living area: a marked new-build slab polished to a smooth grey sheen
New-build kitchen: a marked slab turned smooth, soft grey
Before and after of a Darwin open-plan living area: a dull, blotchy slab ground back to the stone and polished
Living area: dull slab ground back to the stone and given a gloss
Before and after of a Darwin shed and workshop: an oil-marked slab polished to a bright, reflective floor
Workshop shed: oil marks gone, replaced by a tough, bright shine
Before and after of a Darwin commercial space: a worn slab ground deep to show coloured stone, then polished
Commercial space: worn concrete ground deep to reveal coloured stone

Polished concrete looks great and it is easy to live with. It stays cool underfoot on sweltering Darwin days, and without carpet holding moisture, your home is less likely to pick up that damp wet-season smell. There is nowhere for dust and allergens to hide, spills wipe straight up, and it copes with heavy foot traffic. Want something more understated? We can take the same slab to a low-sheen honed finish instead.

Hiring a concreter

What to Look for in a Darwin Concreter

They know the Top End

Your concreter should understand how monsoon downpours, build-up humidity and salty sea air treat a slab. We prepare, pour and finish every job with those conditions in mind, because they are what we work with every week.

You can see their work

Ask any contractor for photos of local jobs, check their recent reviews and make sure they hold a licence and insurance. We are happy to show you what we have built, and we never cut corners on the base, the steel or the finish.

They keep you in the loop

A good concreter puts the price in writing, walks you through each step, sticks to the dates you agreed and gets back to you quickly. That is how we run our jobs, so you always know what is happening on your property.

Common questions

Your Concrete Questions, Answered

Got questions before you book? Here is what Darwin homeowners and builders ask us most, from how we price a job to how the heat and the wet affect a pour, which finishes grip best, and when you can park on your new slab.

We do the groundwork ourselves, and honestly, that is where most of the result is decided. We dig out, strip anything that is no good to build on, level and compact, plan the drainage and lay a crushed rock base. A lot of Darwin sits on lateritic gravel and ironstone. Once it is compacted it makes a solid base, but it can be slow going for the excavator. Clay pockets and poorly drained spots are a different story: they stay soggy right through the wet and will shift a slab that sits straight on them. Low ground near the creeks and mangroves, around Rapid Creek or Ludmilla Creek for example, can be soft and salty, and rural blocks out at Humpty Doo or Howard Springs often have sandy soil that waterlogs in the monsoon. We dig to suit what we actually find, build a firm base and make sure water has somewhere to go other than under your concrete.

We start with the size and the finish you want, then look at the things that move the number. On acreage, the length of the drive from the road to the house or shed makes a big difference. Raised or filled blocks may need thickened edges or a low retaining edge. Soft or wet ground can mean a deeper base, ironstone takes longer to dig, and a block that floods in the wet may need extra drainage. We also check access: can a truck back up to the pour, or will we need a pump or barrows? Pulling out an old driveway adds to the cost as well. We come out, have a look, and give you a written quote with each part listed so nothing is a surprise.

Driveways are our bread and butter, but we pour for homes, businesses and light industrial sites too. That includes patios, paths and footpaths, house and shed slabs, footings, retaining walls, kerbing, pavers, hardstand and car parks, plus decorative finishes, repairs and resurfacing. We also look after the work either side of the pour, from excavation and site prep to breaking out and carting away old concrete. Wondering whether your tired driveway needs replacing or just a resurface? Ask us and we will tell you straight which option makes more sense for your slab.

We work across inner Darwin and the harbourside, including Fannie Bay, The Gardens, Larrakeyah, Parap, Stuart Park, Cullen Bay, Bayview and the Darwin City waterfront. In the northern suburbs we cover Nightcliff, Rapid Creek, Brinkin, Millner, Wagaman, Jingili, Lyons and Muirhead. Around Palmerston we work in Durack, Zuccoli, Johnston, Mitchell, Farrar, Yarrawonga, Rosebery and Bellamack, and in the rural area we head out to Humpty Doo, Howard Springs, Girraween, Herbert, Berry Springs, Virginia, Coolalinga and Holtze. Outside those areas? Get in touch anyway, because it comes down to the size of the job and how our schedule looks. Send us your address and a quick note about the job and we will sort out timing and a site visit.

Yes. We pour car parks, service station forecourts, warehouse and workshop floors, loading docks, turning bays, yards and equipment pads. Commercial slabs are a different beast from a home driveway: heavier loads mean thicker concrete and more reinforcement, and the surface has to stay safe for staff, customers and vehicles when it is wet. These jobs usually follow an engineer’s design, with AS 3600 applied where it is relevant. We also know you probably cannot shut your doors for a week, so we can stage the pour and keep part of your site open while the rest goes down and cures.

For most homes, a broom finish is hard to beat. It is affordable, durable and gives your tyres and feet good grip when the rain comes in. Exposed aggregate costs a little more, but it grips even better and hides wear, so it is a popular pick for shady drives and around pools. If you want the driveway to make a statement out the front, coloured or stamped concrete gives you the most control over the look. One thing we steer people away from outdoors is a smooth steel-trowelled finish, because it gets slick in a downpour and slipperier again once mould or algae move in during the humid months. We can show you samples and talk through what will suit your block.

New concrete goes hard in a few hours, but it keeps getting stronger for weeks afterwards. You can usually walk on it gently after a day or two, and it is best to keep cars off for about a week. It hits its full design strength at around 28 days. In the Darwin heat the first set happens fast, which shortens the finishing window and raises the risk of surface cracking, so in the hotter months we start early in the morning and keep the slab moist. Curing matters just as much as the mix. Concrete that dries out too quickly, or cops a storm before it has set, ends up weaker, so we look after the cure and leave you aftercare notes that suit your slab and the conditions on the day.

We can, and it is often a bigger part of the job than people realise. We break up the old driveway, patio or path, cart the rubble away, dig out any failed base, then build up a fresh compacted foundation ready for the new concrete. What it costs depends on the thickness of the old slab, whether it has reinforcement through it, how easily our machines can get in, and how much has to go to the tip or recycler. On older properties with tight access we may need smaller gear and more hand work, which is why demolition and disposal sit on their own lines in your quote.
